For those companies interested in using word of mouth marketing, the following book is for you.![]()
BuzzMarketing by Mark Hughes.
First of all it is hard to dial into word of mouth marketing if you work through traditional marketing and run magazine ads, newspaper ads etc.. just because that's what has been done in the past.
The whole word of mouth marketing revolves around getting people to speak about your brand (not your advertisement, although some have made that work too!).![]()
Remember the ideas you've thought of or received and you've gone, no way.. that's risky!!! That was probably a piece of buzz marketing you didn't even know of. It's taking the ordinary out and replacing it with extraordinary... hence the results you will get from it are exactly that, EXTRAODINARY!!!
What I want to point out from the book that caught most of my attention (all 5 seconds of it) are these bullets.
"The five most frequently written stories"
1. The David-and-Goliath story
2. The unusual or outrageous story
3. The controversy story
4. The celebrity story
5. What's already hot in the media"
The chapter mentions how in order to generate buzz you should have at least 1 element if not a combination there after and gives examples of companies that have done just this. I must say, if you haven't read this book, I would recommend you do so if you are looking to generate word of mouth marketing. Mark has done a great job of dissecting stories of people, including himself, using buzz marketing to its fullest.
After all, what companies don't want to be in the spotlight?![]()
