    Default adding materials

while creating a new quote I went to the packaging tab and under others I added additional pieces of lumber needed to finish the job. These items are not be added to the estimate. I have checked to make sure they are in inventory and they are. What am I missing?

    Hi David,

When you add items via the Packing > Other tab, the quantity field is exactly the same unit of measure as used in the Inventory module.

In Inventory, using lumber, you enter your costs, weights per linear foot. Per square foot for plywood. (If you're using Imperial measurements).

When you add items in the design itself via Packing > Other, you have to add based on this same information. If you're adding a 2x4 and you enter '1' in the quantity, what gets calculated into the price is 1 linear foot of the material. If you're going to add two eight foot 2x4's you'll enter '16' in the quantity field. This was set up this way due to allow for the many different different unit of measures used by various materials.

The addtional cost is added to the Packing Materials field and not the Container Materials field.

I'd like to add a hint I find works for my guys. You can set this up for any material.

We use a lot of white primer (in Coatings). We get a great price on 5 gallon containers but use about 1 gallon for each run of crates for one of our clients. So when I entered the description as 'Primer - 5 Gal' but I based my costs and time on using 1 gallon.

This way when we add the primer my guys can select 1 in packing-other. I did put in the notes for that material how we're calculating it in case anyone else updates materials.
