Can't See Crate Pro Server?

I re-installed Crate Pro with the dedicated Filemaker server. My O/S is Win 2000. I can access Crate Pro on the server as described for administrating, but when I try to connect through any Client machine by clicking on Open-Remote in Filemaker Pro 6, I don't see the host/server machine.

This worked on our original install but we had a crash. What could have changed?

Hi - sounds like you have Filemaker Server installed correctly if you can see Crate Pro 5 on your server. There are two things you need to check for.

1. Make sure Crate Pro 5 and Filemaker Pro 6 are not running or open on the server. Then go into your server Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and make sure Filemaker Server services are turned on.
2. On your network router ensure the ports that Filemaker uses are open. Sometimes for security reasons your IT will close these ports not realizing that Filemaker uses them: 80, 5003, 16000, 16001 and 2399

Thanks - our IT people closed all the extra ports on the intranet router. I was confused as I didn't realize you could use a router for intranet also but they understood right away.

We also had once PC not on the same subnet. Don't know how that happened but in looking at the settings we were able to fix that PC too!
