    Default Defcon 691

    Has anybody had this spec imposed on them? Here are some excerpts:

    a) all Timber (as defined in Clause 1.c), delivered to the Authority under the Contract or consumed during performance of the Contract shall derive from trees or other plants that have been harvested and exported in strict accordance with the applicable law or laws of the country in which the trees or other plants grew; and

    b) where any Timber delivered to the Authority under the Contract or consumed during performance of the Contract derives from any species of tree, trade in which is regulated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
    (CITES), the Contractor shall comply with the CITES requirements that permit trade in that species of tree;
    and

    c) all timber and wood-containing products ('Timber'),including, but not limited to joinery, fittings, furniture,veneers and non-returnable packaging delivered to the Authority under the Contract or consumed during performance of the Contract are derived from timber lawfully obtained from forests and plantations which are managed to sustain their biodiversity, productivity and vitality, and to prevent harm to other ecosystems and any indigenous or forest-dependent people

    Schulzr,

    I've moved your post from the Wood forum to the UK forum since MODUK Defcon 691 is a British Defence Standard.

    I'm not familiar with it personally, but looking at the date, I would assume it's a government reaction related to ISPM 15.

    It relates to the Ministry of Defences contract requirements.

    Purpose of DEFCON 691 - To ensure that MOD’s Contractors are aware of MOD’s policy on sustainable procurement of timber, both where it is a deliverable under the Contract and where it is consumed in performance of the Contract. It requires the Contractor to obtain and retain evidence of sustainability for MOD’s inspection on request. It also requires the Contractor to supply data and other information on timber procurement, using DEFFORM 691A. Similar obligations are placed on all subcontractors in the supply chain.

    If you are going to quote for them and are unsure of exactly what is required you may need to speak to them directly. Or a litle bit more information can be obtained at http://www.aof.mod.uk/aofcontent/tac...nk/600_699.htm
