Australia Requirements
Hi,
I have a customer who needs a crate to ship into Australia. I need to know if HT wood is the only requirement. UPS says fumigation? My plywood manufacture says there wood is approved for Australia.?? I'm confused. Is there a site that list material requirements for each country?

Re: Australia Requirements
Thanks for your inquiry!
There's been lots of misunderstanding regarding international shipping of wood packaging, regardless of what country is the end destination. "HT Wood" is not the ONLY requirement for any of the participating countries requiring ISPM-15 Compliance.
Australia, along with all the other adopting countries, requires that all solid wood packaging (not processed wood like plywood, OSB, composite, etc.) be EITHER Heat Treated to a core temperature of 133 degrees F for 30 minutes, OR fumigated with Methyl Bromide, using a 24 hour treatment schedule. Once one of these approved methods of eradication has been used, the assembled wood packaging must ALSO bear the IPPC Mark, the international symbol for ISPM-15 Compliance. This mark is applied to assembled wood packaging, not lumber. Therefore, it is not possible to purchase "wood" that already has this mark. It can only be applied by one of the following entities:
1. The Wood Packaging Assembler
2. The Wood Packaging Treater, or
3. An Accredited Inspection Agency under ALSC or NWPCA.
By the way, Australia has an additional requirement, over and above the ISPM-15 Standard. Shipments to Australia must also include a packing declaration that they are free of bark, as well as compliant with ISPM-15.
I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you require additional information.
